Cheryl Rice, Head Coach
Cheryl Rice enters her sixth season at Central Florida Community College and brings along more than fifteen years of coaching experience. Under her guidance, the Patriots continue to be recognized as one of the state’s top programs. Over the past five seasons, Rice has guided the Patriots to a State/Region VIII Runner-up finish, five appearances in the Region VIII tournament, three Mid-Florida Conference Championship and two Mid-Florida Conference Runner-up titles. Rice was named the Mid-Florida Conference Coach of the Year in 2004, 2005, and 2007. Rice has had several patriots players named to the all-conference roster and all-state roster. In her last three seasons, two of the lady patriots under her tutelage were named player of the year and honored as NJCAA/Kodak All-Americans. Rice continues to be an advocate of education and empowers her student-athletes to excel academically, athletically and socially; providing a complete collegiate experience.
Rice served as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at the University of South Alabama from 1996-2000 and Head Coach at Okaloosa-Walton Community College from 1993-1996 where she led the Raiders to two consecutive state championships in 1995 and 1996. She was named Florida Community College Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1996. She served as an assistant coach at Okaloosa-Walton from 1991-1993.
Rice played basketball and earned her Associate in Arts degree at CFCC. She continued her collegiate career and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of South Alabama. Rice earned a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2002, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
"Ms. Rice is enthusiastic, hard working and committed to getting the most out of student-athletes on and off the court," stated Bob Zelinski, CFCC Director of Athletics. "As an alumnus of the college-established in the community and a proven winner.
"As an Ocala native, it is truly a blessing to serve as this institution's women's basketball coach. I continue to enjoy serving and giving back to a community that has been so supportive of me over the years. I believe that 'I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.' Central Florida Community College continues to be a wonderful place full of endless possibilities."
