Dual Enrollment for High School Students

Why wait to graduate from high school to start earning college credit?

The Dual Enrollment program at Central Florida Community College is authorized under Florida Statute 240.116 for college-level instruction for high school students. The program is a cooperative effort among Central Florida Community College and the School Boards of Citrus, Levy and Marion counties to provide enhanced learning opportunities for qualified high school students through the effective use of community college programs and resources.

 

Dual Enrollment Opportunity

Qualified high school students may accelerate their college education through dual enrollment courses offered at either the high school site or a CFCC campus location. Dual enrollment courses are available to eligible students at no cost!

 

Criteria

  • Classification as a high school junior or senior.
  • Students must be at least 16 years old and not more than 19 years old by the first day of class at CFCC.
  • Submission of a CFCC Dual Enrollment application to the Dual Enrollment Coordinator or contact by the application deadline.
  • Submission of acceptable, current scores on an approved placement examination (SAT, ACT, CPT).
  • Submission of a current high school transcript.
  • Appropriate high school GPA.
    *All above items must be submitted by the application deadline
  • Appropriate paperwork from the high school (dual enrollment form for public school students; letter of permission from private or home school students) submitted at time of registration.

High School Student

Cost

Quality instruction is provided at no cost to the student for approved dual credit courses. Textbooks are provided without cost to public school students for approved programs.

 

Criteria for Utilization of Credit

The Dual Enrollment program at CFCC enables qualified students to earn high school and college credit at the same time.

Credits earned through the Dual Enrollment program may satisfy requirements for CFCC's associate degree programs and are transferable to other Florida public community colleges and state universities.

NOTE: Students are cautioned against enrolling in dual enrollment courses and taking advanced placement (AP) examinations in the same course or discipline area. Postsecondary (college) credit is only awarded once.

bullet Provides highly qualified teaching faculty who meet the criteria of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges.
bullet Provides selected course offerings in general education courses widely accepted and generally transferable for upper-division enrollment.
bullet Provides access to college resources, facilities, and services (Learning Support Center and other college activities).
